Since October 2024, the first 100 employees in Thuringia, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt have been equipped with body-cams on a voluntary basis.
Deployment based on experience ** According to a railway spokesperson, “[experience] in other regions has shown that both train staff and passengers feel safer [with body-cams]”. (PressReader.com – Newspapers from around the world) In the medium term, Deutsche Bahn plans to further expand the use of body-cams. A total of 5,000 conductors nationwide are to benefit from the camera technology. Last year, 1,328 DB Regio employees nationwide were victims of verbal and physical violence. The Erfurt-Suhl route in particular saw an increase in attacks on rail staff – the body-cam is intended to have a preventive effect here and serve as objective evidence in the event of a conflict.

Passengers must be informed before a body-cam recording is activated.
If an attack occurs that is recorded by a body-cam, the recordings of reported incidents are viewed exclusively by the federal police. If no criminal proceedings are initiated, the recordings are automatically deleted after 72 hours.
