In the security industry, confrontations and assaults are unfortunately an everyday occurrence. Security personnel often face challenging situations in which they must not only protect themselves, but also maintain order and ensure safety. A body camera is an effective solution for de-escalation and evidence preservation. The German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the Administrative Sector (VBG) recognises the benefits of body cameras and supports their purchase with a bonus.
Would you like to use a body-cam in the security industry? Let us advise you! ## Why a body-cam? Body-Cams have proven to be an effective means of de-escalation. Studies and experience from the police and security industry show that the visible recording of conflict situations deters potential aggressors and prevents escalations. Should an incident nevertheless occur, body-cams provide valuable evidence for investigations and legal proceedings. In its bonus catalogue, the VBG emphasises that body-cams make a decisive contribution to the protection of employees, especially in security-critical areas.
What costs are reimbursed? Depending on the model and range of functions, the purchase of a body-cam can cost between £500 and £900. In addition, there are often investments in charging stations, data readout software and suitable carrying devices. The VBG subsidises these costs with a premium of 40 per cent of the investment sum.
Introductory training courses on the correct use of body-cams are also eligible for funding. ## How companies can apply for the VBG subsidy for body-cams To receive the VBG subsidy, companies must provide proof of the investment. To do this, the VBG requires an invoice with a detailed product description and, if applicable, a manufacturer’s certificate or product data sheet.
The application must be submitted to the VBG by 11 February of the following year at the latest. ## What requirements must body-cams meet to be eligible for funding? Not every camera is recognised by the VBG as eligible for a premium. The devices must meet certain technical requirements, including: * Protection against water and dust (at least IP 67)
- No direct access to stored data by the wearer * Clearly visible recording indicator (e.g. red light) * Secure attachment to clothing * Pre-recording function (to record events shortly before switching on) * Wide-angle camera with HD quality (at least 720p)
- Low light sensitivity for night-time use * At least 8 hours of battery life in standby mode * Data encryption (e.g. AES 256)
- Integrated time stamp for recordings

In addition, a monitor for mirroring the recording is recommended so that the person being filmed can see themselves – another de-escalating measure.
One body-cam that meets all of the above VBG requirements is the NetCo Body-Cam. It was developed specifically for professional use in the security industry and offers the highest quality and maximum security for users and stored data.
