The Saarland police have been using body cameras since 2015 to protect police officers and third parties from attacks.  Since December 2020, the legal provisions for the use of body cameras have been incorporated into the Saarland Police Data Protection Act (SPolDVG). The relevant regulations can now be found in § 32 SPolDVG.

Image and sound recordings may be made in publicly accessible areas if there is a danger to life and limb. In private rooms, their use is only permitted if there is an urgent danger to persons. The use of body-cams in Saarland continues to be clearly regulated by law and has proven to be an effective means of protecting police officers and citizens. Clear legal requirements and data protection-compliant processing of the recordings ensure that the video material is handled responsibly. In 2022, 90 new body-cams were purchased to optimally equip the emergency services.
